AIDS raised a lot of questions, but many people were too afraid to voice them for fear of the social stigma attached to the risk behaviors first associated with AIDS. Because of this, many public awareness campaigns provided information, but this one encouraged readers to speak up and begin the discussion.
With a new disease affecting hundreds of thousands of people every year, there was (and still is) a lot to learn about staying safe, being compassionate, taking action, and making progress. This visually simple advertisement emphasized that any attempt to learn was a step in the right direction.
