Grant Numbers in 2009 PubMed® Display and Search Changes

T he display of grant numbers in PubMed changed slightly on December 15, 2008 when the new 2009 system became available. As reported in MEDLINE® Data Changes 2009, the granting agency's hierarchical structure is now included, and the country information is now in a separate element (defined by the slash).
Here is an illustration of how grant numbers now display in the PubMed Citation format:
Components of the granting agency can be searched individually, e.g., nih [gr].
Because country is now in a separate element, searching also changed slightly. To search for a granting agency and a particular country, tag the search terms (i.e., [gr]) and AND them together, e.g.:
- country [gr] AND agency [gr]
