Jim Mork Selected to Serve as Acting Director of NLM’s Lister Hill National Center for Biomedical Communications
James (Jim) Mork, MS, has been named Acting Director of the Lister Hill National Center for Biomedical Communications (LHNCBC) at the National Library of Medicine (NLM), National Institutes of Health, effective December 30, 2023. In this role, Mr. Mork will be charged with continuing LHNCBC’s reorganization to include implementing the new strategic vision and direction for the Applied Clinical Informatics Branch. Jim will also lead LHNCBC in NLM’s mission to support and foster open science.
“Mr. Mork has a history of providing strategic leadership to key programs and initiatives at NLM. As Lister Hill pivots its focus, he will be a great asset to further implement and foster priority activities to advance open science and other aspects of biomedical communication,” said NLM Acting Director Steve Sherry, PhD. “I also want to express my sincerest gratitude to Dr. Olivier Bodenreider for serving as Acting Director of Lister Hill for the past five years.”
Mr. Mork brings more than 26 years of experience in biomedical research and production, product assessment, data science, and natural language processing to his new role, as well as expertise in spurring innovation, building relationships, and change management. During Mr. Mork’s career with NLM, he served as the Acting Chief of the Applied Clinical Informatics Branch in LHNCBC. During this time, he managed strategic direction for the branch and led development efforts of the NLM Medical Text Indexer. He has also been instrumental in launching key initiatives at NLM, such as implementing the Center for Clinical Observational Investigations.
Mr. Mork has a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from Central Michigan University and a Master of Science in Computer Science from Johns Hopkins University.
